What is up with the sudden obsession with trafficked and missing children lately?

It's an extremely important issue but at the same time it feels like people dangling a shiny object to distract from issues they don't want to talk about because public opinion has shifted against their position.

Another interesting thing I've noticed is that some people posting about concerns over child trafficking haven't said much about federal troops without identification taking people away in unmarked vehicles. If your goal is to reduce child trafficking then you shouldn't be cool with unidentified people whisking people away in vans. How do you know it was a federal agent? You don't. If that behavior is normalized it only gives cover to child traffickers. You might witness an actual abduction but rationalize it away thinking it's only the feds taking away a baddie.

Regardless, both are important issues and it's not like trying to fix one issue comes at the expense of trying to fix the other. Groups of people can work on more than one problem at once.
