What video games show that graphics truly aren't everything?

To date there have been roughly 50 Magic the Gathering games released, 20 Yugiohs, and roughly 100 "stand alones"...

But (at least prior to arena) it was the opinion of the VAST majority of Magic players that the best "card game" ever done for PC or gaming platform was a game we affectionately call "Shandalar" (Microprose Magic the Gathering) which was released in 1997... and wasn't considered that graphically stunning even at release.

The gameplay is just that good.

To the point that youtube's default "image" for magic streams is a picture of the shandalar box art. So was twitch's until the release of Arena (cause screw MODO apparently).

You know what game competed with Shandalar for the top spot? You'd think it would be hearthstone due to budget and the playerbase but nope! It was pokemon online. Another game with really mediocre graphics but fantastic core gameplay.
