what is the weirdest interaction you have had with a total stranger?

I was walking home at night and an orange cat started following me. It had a collar and one of those trap-neuter-release clipped ears so I figured he was an outdoor cat or stray. A family appears and is walking behind me. They asks if it’s my cat. I say no, it’s just following me. They say they would take it if they didn’t have dogs and ask me to take it home so a coyote doesn’t eat it. I am iffy about it because I have roommates but I get convinced. We are still walking together in the same direction, me carrying the cat.

We all get to the corner and are waiting for the walk signal when a man who does not seem sober and is holding a small dog comes up and starts listening to the lady talk to me about how I should be holding the cat. He asks me if he can look in its mouth because he thinks it might be his friends cat. He and his tiny dog come closer and it growls at us, I turn away with the cat but the guy apparently gets a good enough look at the cats teeth that he says “oh, that’s not his cat.”

Anyway I took the cat home for the night, brought him to the shelter the next day. Somebody claimed him after a week and I don’t walk home alone at night anymore.
