What were the earliest things you learned about "lesbians"

When I was a kid being gay was called having an "alternative lifestyle" if it was talked about at all, and few were brave enough to do such abominable things in public... for good reason. You know, horribly offensive things like marrying your lifelong partner, or holding their hand in public, lest they might offend the delicate sensitivities of society.

Because these things weren't commonplace in my region, and because being gay was SO taboo that my religious parents didn't dare discuss such things in detail, I always assumed it was something horrible. In fact, I knew I liked girls from the time I was about 7, I was annoyingly precocious, but had no idea that was "the gay". I just never felt the need to notify anyone fortunately and therefore escaped exile (I guess).

When I was first introduced to the concept of "lesbians" there were 2 distinct categories: the porn kind, who barely/rarely qualify and are more likely performances intended for men, or aggressively androgynous humans who were perhaps women at one time? All I knew was I definitely didn't belong in either of those categories, but I couldn't stop dreaming about boobs.

I guess this is the reason I'm in my 30's and still not comfortable with labels. I am hella gay, and I'm reminded of this fact every time I'm within 18 meters of a halfway attractive girl, buuuuuut occasionally I've been known to go with dick because tbh it's like fast food. Cheap, easy, quick, and even though you're left with twice the shame the next morning, they tend to catch their own ride home. Reliable. It'll never be as good as steak, but dammit it's open 24 hours.
