What were you taught at school that you found out to be wrong?

They were very friendly with the Indians. All the indians wanted colonists on their side in their squabbles with other tribes. The Indians were more brutal to each other than anything. Narragansetts and Mohegans worked with the English to wipe out the pequots, and both tribes took slaves from the pequots. The mohegans treated their slaves so badly the colonists in CT had to intervene. From the wiki for Block Island RI's Mohegan bluffs-

The Mohegan Bluffs are large clay cliffs about 150 feet (46 m) high, located on the southern shore of Block Island. They got their name because the battle of the Niantic and the Mohegan took place here in the mid 16th century. The battle was over supremacy of the island, and the intruding Mohegans were forced over the cliffs to their death by the native Niantic

Yea, they were brutal.
