What is the worst case of edgy teenager syndrome you have ever witnessed?

Back in school (ages 14-16) my friend group was pretty much the edgy kids. I'll include myself as well to some degree although I was relatively normal compared to the edgier ones of the group, mostly because I was quite shy and didn't want attention so it was only really my close friends that heard the dumb shit I would say. This was 2005-2008 in the UK so the whole emo kid trend was in full swing, and our group was basically all the emos and moshers (about 15 kids out of ~300 in the year group).

Half of the group were like me: shy, nerdy, kept to themselves, but given the opportunity we would expose a bit of our edgy personas (ooo I changed my MSN display pic to a girl eating a fake bloody heart). The other half were permanently switched onto edge-mode and would do a mixture of daft stuff like talk about death or killing other students, bring vodka to school (have two sips and act drunk), etc, but also some more serious stuff. They were mostly girls and a few of them even talked very openly about suicide attempts, self-harm (always showing off wrist scars), how they had gotten high on many different types of drugs, and even how they had been raped before. Obviously this stuff is pretty serious if it's true, but the claims were dubious at best. I mean, the wrist scars were real but I don't think any of them had a serious cutting problem. I say this because flash forward to when these girls reached 18ish and were in college/uni, they were all completely different and very much out of their teen emo phase. They seem totally stable and normal nowadays if Facebook is anything to go by, although I don't talk to them anymore.

I guess I'll never know for certain whether any of the suicide or rape claims were true, but I do get the impression that they were merely ammunition for the 'disturbed misunderstood edgy kid' routine. Might seem harsh to say that but if you knew these kids then you'd probably think the same. Oh and they would bitch behind each other's back and tell people that they knew the stories were made up so...there's that.
