What the worst “I don’t fit in here” experience you’ve ever had?

Wasn't exactly "bad," but when I was an undergraduate, I was able to go present my zebrafish research project at the Society for Neuroscience conference. I went to a smaller, less well known university called Belmont, but they gave me lots of research opportunities. Really big gig, 30k neuroscientists, all the top dogs are there, Ivy League veterans, and I knew I wasn't going to get much traffic at my poster but I was just happy to be there.

Ended up seeking out my neuroscience hero while I was there and geeked out in front of him to tell him how much of a fan I was and loved his work, and he invited me to a social that night with his memory research colleagues, and boy did I feel out of depth. There was Nobel Laureates there, researchers with contributions I could only dream of doing one day, and I was the ONLY undergraduate student there. I felt so small compared to the rest of the people there, but for the most part people there were really nice to me!

I'll never forget the "wtf" moment when I looked over and saw two Nobel Laureates just downing shots of fireball.
