What is the worst thing that you've seen a coworker do and still avoid being fired?

I had a doctor try to divert narcotics through me.

I worked in admin in an outpatient clinic type setting. My desk was near the front of the workspace, and I faced a little pharmacy that we shared a building with. So when this doctor asked if I minded filling a prescription for him, I said no problem. I thought he meant ‘walk this over to the pharmacy for me because I’m too lazy’. Which seemed about right. He did say, ‘it’s for Vicodin, is that ok?’ I said, ‘yeah, whatever, I don’t give a shit what you take’.

About an hour later, I’m sitting in my boss’s office just chatting. This doctor walks in and hands me the prescription. It’s for Vicodin alright. Like 500 of them. Written out to me. I’m sure my face did some things, because my boss immediately asked me what was wrong.

Long story short, we called the higher ups immediately. They swooped in that same night. I thought Dr. Feelgood was fired for sure. But nope. He called his psychiatrist, who faxed over a letter that basically said, ‘Dr. Feelgood is not an addict’’. And that was it. He was back to work the next day.
