What would have been good advice in 1990 that would be terrible advice in 2020?

Same. I grew up in a small town in rural South Dakota and this was accepted practice. Need to buy a six pack for my old man! No problem son!

Fun fact I have yet to encounter people that work as hard and simultaneously drink alcohol like it’s going out of style as good old South Dakota boys. My best friends Dad had a seasonal business where he would paint houses in the summer. He typically would work 6-6 and every evening consume 6-12 beers then get up and repeat the process the next day. Skinny as a rail and in great shape. He’s like 70 now and as far as I know he still paints houses but probably not at the rate he did in his younger days.
