Just don't start with a comment on their appearance. Consider, if a guy messaged you "hey, sexy!" It's not endearing, it's creepy. Open with a question, or a comment about his profile.

That said - you said they often think you're a bot - it's probably bc your pictures are Too sexy. I've swiped for women on Tinder, and I can say that the bot profiles always have two things: sexy pics and a snap name. Both allow to bypass the whole point of tinder: anonymity until a connection is made.

(Idk what these guys are thinking, refusing Any girl who messages first. But if a girl with a thong picture and "I'm never on this app, add me on Snap! Sexy_Boobs6969" messages you... yea, that's a bot.)
