What would be a reasonable request from the people I purchased a home from in splitting the costs of after-purchase repairs?

Well, the law as usual is fairly vague relative to this. It merely states that the seller must disclose to a prospective purchaser all material facts of which the licensee is aware, which could adversely and significantly affect an ordinary purchaser's use or enjoyment of the property.

Whether or not an 'ordinary' person could use and enjoy a home that cannot cool below 85 degrees in several parts of the home is debatable, but I think I would win that one. I realize it's an old house and I shouldn't expect everything to work like a brand new home. I don't think it's unreasonable to expect the system to function to a level that actually heats and cools the home, though. Several parts of the home get nothing.

As for evidence, I have three neighbors that have all told me that the previous owners complained of the issues and even had an HVAC company come out to bid it out. I then had that same HVAC company come out and tell me they had been in this house and had given the same quote to the previous owners. Essentially, they were 100% aware of not only the issue, but the scope of the issue and the cost to repair it. I am aware that any attorney can tell me I have a case in hope of paid work, but he went through multiple points about disclosure failures that were all relevant to my case.
