He very likely made it all about him, and about how HE will not be persecuted for ostricising his son for being gay, so the compromise is that he will go, pay for it with part of the donation the anti-gay lobby put in his pocket for the vote, make a big show of it for the media, and the son will tolerate it likely because anyone in any of those families has to walk around these snowflake fucks like you're on eggshells already.
