Was skipping school on April Fools Day about 10 years ago. Had dropped my 3 sisters off at school and took my dads old beater out for some joy riding. Decided to text my mom and tell her “I was skipping school, got in a car crash in dads car, and needed to be picked up from a hospital about 45 mins away.” She called me 15 times, I sent it to voicemail and texted APRIL FOOLS. She said I was stupid.
After a bit, I get bored of joy riding and decide to take a nap in the back seat of the car while I wait for the mall to open. All settled in, I look up and see smoke coming from under the hood. “Hmm.. no biggie,” I thought to myself, “I’ll just turn the car off, let it cool off, hurry back to school, go to class, and after school on the drive home be like ‘why is dads car smoking?!’” April Fool proof plan, amiright?
It gets worse. As I’m speeding back to school, cutting through parking lots to avoid red lights, I turned down a road and didn’t pay attention to the construction signs. Sure enough, a cop is driving on the opposite side of the road and does a U-turn to pull me over.
Him: “Miss, do you know what I pulled you over?
Me: breaks down sobbing “my car is smoking!”
He makes me pop the hood. Turns out a hose was leaking. Gives me a ticket for going 5 over in a regular zone instead of 15 over in a construction zone... but tells me I have to call a tow truck and someone to come pick me up.
Easy to say, my mom was NOT thrilled when she got that call.
