What is your crazy people gun story?

A coworker a couple weeks ago asked me for a gun recommendation, because she and her husband are concerned about home defense. So we chatted for a few and I talked about the pros and cons of revolvers versus semi-autos.

An eavesdropper popped up from another cubicle and scolded me for advising someone to get an automatic weapon, because they're illegal.

"I was talking about semi-automatics. They're quite different."

"It's the same damn thing! You can't own them and they're illegal."

"If semi-automatic firearms are illegal, then why are millions of them sold to civilians every year? If they're illegal, why was I able to buy two of them from two separate, completely normal, legitimate businesses?"

"You don't know what you're talking about."

"Owning an illegal firearm can land a person in federal prison for years. If I owned illegal firearms, why would I be casually talking about it in public? Don't you think I'd want to avoid jail time? I'm well aware of the law. Are you?"

She got in a huff and said "You gun guys are all the same."

The girl I was originally talking to said "Have you seen the Bernie Sanders sticker on his car?"
