what was your experience getting your iud?

Not bad at all. Went in, she explained to everything she was doing, and it was over. When she inserted it I had a bad cramping feeling and a pinch but it was only enough for a wince.

When it was time to go I had some spotting for about a week and then I had a continuous light period for like 5-6 weeks but that went away. It was enough for a light pad or a pantiliner.

When everything died down I didn't get any period at all and if I did have anything as a "period" if was only more discharge and very light cramping. Pretty much just to tell me "yo, you should be on a period, but I never damn mind."

Now that I have had it taken out after about 4 years (want to try for a baby), the only differences I notice are an increased sex drive and my period is back but not nearly as bad as before. Before the IUD my periods were horrible cramping, heavy flow, neasea, body aches, and tiredness. Now I just have light cramps, light/medium periods, and want to take a nap or 2 but that's it.

I almost didn't get the IUD because of all the horror stories. They freaked me out so so bad and made me dread getting it even though I really wanted one, but my best advice would be to just get it. Those horror stories actually almost made me back out once but I'm glad I didn't and I'm really happy to have gotten it and would get one all over again if I really wanted to (though my husband is getting a vasectomy when we don't want kids anymore, I told him if I carry and birth a child or 2 then he can get a vasectomy. Shoot blanks, not a bullet proof vest that can malfunction)
