What your favorite films say about you.

Understandable. I adore Weekend despite not being a Marxist; Forrest Gump, despite not being a liberal; and Patriotism, despite not being a reactionary. I know that in my experience though, the ideological inspiration for a film can make it more difficult for me to enjoy. Take WR: Mysteries of the Organism, for instance. I actually like the style of the film quite a bit but the Reichian psychoanalytic pseudo-science and free love nonsense repulses me to the point that I almost find the film unenjoyable. I am Curious is a good example of this from your favorites. The annoying protagonist is also a big contributing factor to why I can't stand that one. The Birth of a Nation is another good example. I've seen parts of it and recognize its importance but never watched it all the way through because I just can't get behind a movie that's so explicitly racist. I never judge films strictly by their politics. That's just foolish. It can play a role in how much I enjoy it though.
