i’ve always found it fascinating that these composers made music that was simultaneously groundbreaking and irresistible. modernists who wrote without alienating their audience.

it’s almost as if their music is a love letter to tonality, but divorced from its rules; or, if tonality is prose, then debussy, messiaen and ravel were poets in their own right.

p.s. stravinsky was one of the most versatile and revolutionary composers of the 20th century. i’ll vote for him as my favourite, if only because he deserves some more love on here!!
