What was your first job?

I was a paperboy at age 11. I had about 68 customers and delivered the afternoon paper on weekdays and morning on weekends. A truck would drop a couple bundles on my curb and I had to fold them all with a rubber band, or bag 'em if it was raining. Then I put on a canvas tote over my head with big pockets front and back filled with the papers, hopped on my bike and went to deliver. As I emptied the front pouch throwing papers, the weight from the back one would start choking me so I'd turn it around to rebalance it. I knew all the customers and would throw the paper right where they wanted it - porch or driveway.

Sundays were toughest of course because I'd be up rolling papers by 5am and they were much larger. The smell of newsprint always takes me back to being up early, hungry and folding papers, getting my hands black with the ink. My route ended right across the street from Daylight Donuts so with my fabulous wealth making about 65 bucks a month, I'd often stop for a donut and hot chocolate.
