What is your Landlord horror story?

Currently going through this.

The ceiling in the bathroom caved in in the apartment next to us from a roof leak. Tenant refused to pay until it was fixed. Too bad the tenant didn't show for the hearing. Would've been made to fix it.

Downstairs neighbor's living room caved in from a suspected window flashing leak. These are really old windows in our apartment. This is still not fixed despite happening in October.

For our apartment, the downstairs neighbors had a severe bedbug infestation. Didn't find this out until I saw their exterminator and put it together with all of the cloth furniture and carpeting they threw away in the week prior. Started checking around my apartment and yup, they migrated up to our place as well. Contacted the landlord via email for record keeping purposes, and she replied, I shit you not, "You had better take care of this before it becomes a problem". I was floored and we decided to stop paying rent over it since it is a violation of the implied warranty of habitability.

When the inevitable court date came, the landlord tried to tell the judge that they knew nothing about the emails sent regarding the pests. She changed her tune once I supplied the court with printouts of our entire email conversation. Judge knocked $1000 off of what she said was owed. I call that a win.

We're due in court again over the same thing. We have the same magistrate presiding. We'll be able to prove it is willful neglect on their part since they were informed back in May. Lied in court about it in August. They still haven't remedied the situation, and we intend to ask the judge to have them pay for our new furniture that we receive in our new apartment tomorrow so that we didn't take the critters with us.

Fuck them.
