What was your most intense first-day-on-the-job experience?

Support worker, working with vulnerable young people. First day on the job and one of the female residents overdosed in the shelter bathroom. Just myself and another support worker on shift, and two worried residents to try and keep calm, while we broke the bathroom door open and waited for help to arrive.

We had no idea what had happened at the time as it was happening. Just that the water had been running in the bathroom for a long time. One of the residents alerted us when they had been knocking on the door to see how long she would be, as they needed to use the bathroom.

The girl in question spent two days in hospital before being discharged with no follow up. She was just told to go and see her doctor if she felt she needed help.
