What was your scariest "A second later and I would've died" moment?

I don't think I would've died, but I do remember one incident.

I was really young at that time, I was in my late preschooling, I think?

Our family had gone to a cruise vacation, that spanned short visits across multiple countries. The name of the tour was 'Star Cruise' or something..?

Anyway, young me was at the port looking at the huge ship beside it at one of the stops. All of a sudden, this child me got a cool thought:

What's it like to touch a ship? I've touched a plane before, I wonder if it feels the same?

While my mother was listening to a guide, that child me just charged straight for the ship without warning. My mother was done tending to my even younger brother then, and noticed me and began charging like mad. I recall a strong arm from her catching me by the arm just as I was about to reach for the ship. I had almost tripped and fell off the pier. As a kid, I didn't know there was a gap between the ship and the land. Man I was dumb. I recall looking down after losing my balance, when my mother had gripped me strongly, seeing the black water below.

Well, maybe if I was faster, or if my mother had noticed a second later, I could have drowned? I wonder if a child below 10 could have survived that.

Unfortunately, here I am, alive, haha. The me now would be doing the same thing with that knowledge lol.

Thankfully, my mother doesn't reddit. This is a dead giveaway as she does tell me that story from once a few years, haha.
