What was your scariest "A second later and I would've died" moment?

Driving my two roommates in one of their cars to Florida. There was a wreck ahead of us and the cops had just arrived at the scene. They shut down one of the 2 lanes of interstate we were driving on without a flagger or any warning. Cars started swerving over into our lane amd everyone had to slam on their brakes. A friend I was following right behind had to swerve to the closed lane to avoid a collision amd my decision was whether to rear end him going 65 without a seatbelt or swerve a bit farther and go off the road. It seemed like time slowed down as I made the split second decision to go flying off the road. We slid all the way to the treeline and hit that only going about 15 so the car got stuck and had to be totaled but the air bags didnt deploy. The cops on the scene told us we got "about 10 or 15 feet in the air." In reflection, the only reason I had time to react was because my roommates car didnt have cruise control and my feet and hands were in go position.
