What was your worst roommate ever like and why were they the worst?

One girl I lived with seemed okay to start with. She held down a job, she ran every day, she was dating an up-and-up guy; generally things that make you think a person has it together.

But soon enough every one of us in that house found out she was a trainwreck. She was the messiest, most abhorrently foul housekeeper any of us had ever seen in our lives. Every time she cooked something it looked like the refrigerator exploded all over the kitchen and she'd just leave the pots and pans and dishes out. She'd hoard our plates and silverware in her room, just leaving them on the floor along with her dirty laundry.

Her room! Oh god her room. Ay dios mio. Her room smelled like people had died in it. She would leave the heater on at full blast with her dirty clothes all over the floor, dirty dishes left all over--everything was molding--she kept pet fish in beer growlers with increasingly murky water--just... Jesus Christ. I mean, I'm not about to claim I'm spotlessly clean and organized, but this girl was beyond the deep end, beyond the event horizon. Over a spring break I had to dive into her cesspool to get a spoon--there was no silverware left, clean or otherwise--and I thought I needed a hazmat suit to get through it. I picked out the nearest spoon I could find, dunked it in bleach for two hours, and had to hoard it myself.

She brought home a kitten one day without asking anyone in the house if they were allergic, or well, if they minded having cat hair everywhere. Luckily for the kitten we all thought it was cute, and kept it around, but the principle of the thing, y'know? If you're living in a shared house you have to communicate about that kind of thing. And yep eventually she started to not pay her rent or her share of the bills, either. We called her out on it and she started crying like we were attacking her or something. Before the landlord could boot her out, she moved to a new place... but left the room a complete mess, a total disgusting mess. The entire carpet in her room had changed color compared to the rest of the second floor.

I felt absolutely heartbroken when someone came to see the room a week later and the girl took it immediately because she was escaping abuse and didn't have the money for anything else. That was the ultimate gutpunch for me about how awful the previous girl had been.

Oh yeah and she had absolutely no emotion in her voice.
