What's the best martial art for self defense in a dangerous area? Do you have a story of how your martial art saved you?

Krav maga as people know it has got some fundamentals like push kicks, knife defense, conditioning, and dealing with multiple opponents (never turning your back to anyone, movement to keep enemies in front of you) but the main point of krav maga is hand to hand combat in warfare with full gear. Including gun and knife. And with the pure goal of killing your opponent as quickly as possible.

The krav maga people learn in studios outside of Israel are adaptations of this. So you have Israeli former combat soldiers (people who are super arrogant and think they know everything) who live around the world teaching vastly different techniques and calling it all krav maga. But actually krav maga only exists in the IDF and its more about learning to get the shit beaten out of you than beating the shit out of others.

It's a lot of mindset stuff and a lot of conditioning but not really a lot of technique outside of some basic moves. Some of which use your gun/knife.

Source: was in the IDF and before that I practiced 'krav maga' from an Israeli living in my home country. Was completely different.
