What's the biggest red flag you've ever ignored?

ulcerative colitis

My most recent ex (of two years) did meth. She told me about a week after we'd met and I thought it was pretty gross, but she was really well put together, attractive, did well in school, etc, and said she was just a "maintenance" user (only snorted, low doses, etc). So I figured maybe my impression of meth was just based on scare tactics and propaganda.

Well what I didn't understand is how meth changes you as a person. I didn't get that if you spend your time constantly lying to your friends and family about your drug usage, that lies just become how you deal with reality in general.

I didn't get that the type of person who looks for a quick fix with drugs will look for a quick fix everywhere else too.

I still don't understand the lack of empathy or compassion, or just the general craziness that surrounds your life when meth is involved, even in small amounts.

So long story short, after 22 months or so we hit a little dip in our relationship and started spending a little less time together, and she took that oppertunity to start fucking her neighbor, who moved in with her after a couple months. She kept seeing me but apparently he thought they were together too, and on New Years of 2014 she told me she needed a short break. Really she was just too much of a coward to break up with me.

Turns out he's a meth addict, a way more hardcore one. He abuses her physically, and I spent the better part of last year trying to help her out of that relationship (because I did still love her and I'm retarded).

I put the guy in jail a couple times, but he never got more than 30 days. Except the last time because he refused to take a plea and so he's in there until at least late March when he has court. He'll serve at least 6 months, but I stopped talking to her shortly after he went to jail and I'll never do so again.
