What's a dating norm that's recently come about that you don't like?

I've tried the online dating (even though it's only recently risen in popularity over where I live) and from the two matches I got in about 4 months, I always had to initiate a conversation and tried to feel out the other person before going straight to "You want to meet up somewhere?" and both times it just fizzled out. Both times the women just gave one word answers and I didn't know whether that's a "You're boring as shit" or "Just ask me to meet up already" sign.

I've tried recently again and I had a few likes and matches but I got extremely anxious at the prospect of messaging them, so I quickly deleted the app and there's that. Can't be arsed to be the one carrying the conversation, feeling like a bore because all I get are one word answers.
