What's the dumbest reason you ever got detention for in high school?

Not highschool, but I wanna share.

So lemme preface this with "Kids in grade 7/8 are insane."

mid-90's. I lived in a small town (15k~) a couple blocks from school, so I usually went home for lunch and return for the last bit of lunch recess. Usually because they would leave us unattended for an hour, and people would get up to shit.

Liiiiiiiiiiiike

  • In grade 6, a grade 8 kid once hopped the fence (didn't need to, it was only like 4' tall) ran across the street, hopped on a snowmobile and drove off.

  • A Housing renovation project behind the school was making a large pile of shingles. We discovered they could be thrown in an arc like a boomerang and they'd dig into the ground if we made a cool triangle shape with them. Teachers asked us to stop. We didn't.

Lost recess for a few weeks while it was cleaned up.

  • In grade 7, there was a kid named Jason..He was the kid whose parents moved around a lot, so some years he'd be at our school, or other schools. He was really easily irritated, we'd see him at competitions etc, and boys, being boys.. would razz each other.

One day, someone dared him to come fight at afternoon recess. Cept he went to a school about 20mins away.

But Jason, being Jason.. shows up with 5 friends. Everyone (including the teacher) watches them approach the school, walk into the field and wait for us.

Truancy officers were called, picked them up right quick. So dumb.

  • In grade 8, we decided that the grade 7s needed to be knocked down a peg. We hired grade 6's (with recess snacks) to act like trained(?) rabid monkeys' and scratch/bite them when we asked to. We never got in trouble for this, but seriously WTF?

  • A few boys decided it'd be cool to start a trend called 'hipcheck' where they'd randomly hipcheck someone from outside their field of vision. They'd yell "hipcheck" so it was considered 'fair game'. Again, attempts to stop us were met on deaf ears, so (just the boys) lost recess for a few weeks again.

  • Someone set fire to a discarded beer cardboard container. For whatever reason it caught very quickly, they tossed it into an open culvert at the edge of the school property.

It caught whatever was in there on fire too, making a nice billowy smoke.
