What's the dumbest thing you've ever done solely because you were too awkward to do the normal thing?

When I was in elementary school I was over at a friends house and his mom had made lunch for us. They were wraps with a bunch of sliced up tomatoes in them, and I didn’t like tomatoes. I was too scared to admit this though because when offered tomatoes I had said yes because I wanted her to think I liked tomatoes. Don’t ask me why, it just felt superior to me to like tomatoes rather than dislike them for some reason. So I proceeded to use my fingers to roll the tomatoes out of my wrap and make awkward comments about how my tomatoes seemed to be falling out of my wrap over an otherwise silent lunch. It was fairly obvious my tomato removal was intentional, so my friends mom started to reassure me that it was okay if I just didn’t want tomatoes on my wrap. But see, I couldn’t admit that I didn’t want them because I had said I wanted them when they were offered. So the rest of our lunch was spent with me looking straight into her eyes denying my dislike for tomatoes and insisting they were falling out while clearly picking them out of my lunch. They thought I was a strange child. And they weren’t wrong.
