What's a fact of life that nobody wants to think about?

We do a lot to ignore death even in the face of it. We do as much as we can to make dead bodies look like they're doing just fine and then we do as much as we can to cover them afterwards and then we bury them literally and figuratively. People seem to have a lot of realizations about what really matters in life when they finally realize death is knocking at the door, but then they only get a small amount of time on the planet to have these realizations. We are all on the brink of death.

Biological life is very fragile, but everyone lives like they have all the time in the world to waste or sacrifice. Car wreck tomorrow. All it takes. Okay odds at living another day because you're young aren't actually great odds when you think of how huge your loss is if you flip the wrong side of the coin. All your work and stress and unresolved issues can be wasted by a misfortune tomorrow. I think part of the problems our culture is having with figuring out morality and philosophy is that we can't truly face death.

When is the last time you sat down and thought about whether you'd be fine with dying today? There is a lot to be learned from even just imagining your death. All predictions of the future are flawed at some level. You need to be ready. Failure to prepare is preparing to fail.
