What's going on with voice actor Vic Mignogna and his lawsuit?

It seems like it would be very difficult for a voice actor in a professional project to be a contractor. They may have designated him that, but I doubt the law would see it that way.

I can't say for sure how that worked with him specifically, but I can tell you that there's a major, major occurrence of indie studios (who don't know better) designating actors and crew as contractors, then when the law gets involved for one reason or another it turns out they're actually employees (and the studios usually owe a ton of fees).

The only way I could see him being a legitimate contractor is if they sent him the script and he had a home studio where he recorded it entirely on his own, with no direction, then sent the recordings back to them. What's more likely is he probably went into the studio when they had him scheduled and took direction and performed when and how he was told to. So, employee, even if that's not what the company designates him as.
