What's the harsh reality no one accepts?

Try Buddhism then? Except the metaphysical shit.

Buddha said "we just don't know". We fucking don't know what is life, what is consciousness, what is death, what this universe is made of, what is everything. He is fucking dead by the way, but his message is still on point. Is he in heaven? Is he in his afterlife? We fucking don't know.

Then what do we know?

"Here and now".

We know that we are here living now. That's the only thing we know for sure. Every single moment of life is here, happening. If anything bothers or distracts you from it, it's pointless. Not saying that you should YOLO. You can plan for your future and still live the current moment. Just don't adhere to any ideas that you don't know and also stops you from living in the moment.

We die, we can't escape that. Then why try to escape? Why do you think of the absolute worst(or unknown)?

Breath, feel, look, smell, taste, touch, hear. Go get some chocolate or icecream or anything. Stare at the sky. Listen to some music. Smell a fresh clean clothes.

Now, get back to your life.
