I'm a pretty schlubby guy but I've consistently done better than I should have, though I'm very happily married now. Lots of amazing women, not sure why.

Anyway, the best overall in terms of "out of my league" was a Hollywood actress, mid-30s then and lovely, who came through my line at a bookstore years back. Independent bookstores attract celebrities like flies to shit, I mean as shoppers, not making appearances or anything. She was a regular on the series E.R. for those who give a shit.

She came through my line after I spent an afternoon helping her husband, a lesser known but still semi-famous actor, find a first edition he'd been looking for all afternoon. Thing is, I didn't know they were together. Things were said and I spent the evening in a very nice hotel room with her, though initially she was kind of a bitch.

Next night I'm at home doing some grad work and I see her on a talk show, talking up her husband and his new movie, how he's the best guy ever and it's the best movie ever. They were married I think for another year or two.
