Okay, so:

My great-grandfather grew up and lived on a family ranch near Berlin, back in the early 1900's. He left when the Nazis took over, but that's another story.

ANYWAYS, he has a brother, my great-great uncle (will be referred to just as his brother so I don't have to write that repeatedly). This brother had a very specific job during the harvest season, and if he didn't do it, basically all of them were screwed and were going to starve/not have anything to sell.

Great-grandpa's brother left during the harvest season for a day or two, and he had to go find him. He ended up finding him fucking around with a woman from a nearby circus. Yes. Really.

Anyways, he forced him to come back home, and according to my dad, they got into arguments about it DECADES later. According to him, this is how their arguments went:

Great-Grandpa: We would have starved to death! Great-Grandpa's Brother: I would have come back! I wasn't through with her yet!

TL;DR great-great uncle ran off with a girl from the circus during the harvest season and almost starved the family.
