What's the most toxic industry/job you've had in Australia?

  • SA T/W * a charity contracted sales company door knocking.

i find my retail job on minimum wage absolute heaven after coming from 3 years in that industry.

they'd hire 18-19 year olds, make us create an ABN to be sole traders and "our own bosses". we were all young and had absolutely no idea what we were doing. they'd flash money, fancy lifestyles and cars in front of our faces, truly some brainwashing behaviour. we'd get paid $20 a sale for signing someone up to a charity, but if they cancelled after the sign up we'd have to pay it back. a good day was 3 sales. we'd work 7-6 monday-sat for $50 some weeks and then be made to pick all the other doorknockers up. my biggest day of driving was 200kms up and down the coast out of my own pocket. the office itself was so bad. so much drugs, alcohol, intimidation from the bosses. a lot of manipulation and abuse. and a lot of sexual assault. one girl who was 18 i worked with was raped after being fed an insane amount of alcohol at a work function. she was threatened out of talking to cops. we were all told lies. just absolute messy. when i encounter charity sales people now i just feel so much ptsd. im best friends with people i used to work with and after years we still haven't processed what all that was. i wish i could take them to court and get those years of my youth back.
