We were having issues with our roommate and after it kept getting worse we gave her a notice of termination for her to move out in 30 days. She demands I reimburse her for the paint she bought to paint our living room. No one asked her to paint but I was like, "You know what, fuck it. It's a shared space and if it will get her out of my hair..." so I tell her if she gives me the receipt I'd gladly give her the money for the paint. She tells me she doesn't have it and it's somehow my responsibility to find out how much the paint was. I knew she used some expensive brand but I went to Home Depot and found the cheapest version of the paint she used and told her, "Okay, this is how much two cans of paint is. I will write you a check for this amount AND you'll get the deposit from whoever moves into the room, which I will give you when you hand me the keys and leave on the 1st. You're getting over $500 to move out and I suggest you take it."
She suddenly gets very bold and starts demanding I also pay for the paint she used to paint her room (a super shitty job by the way, she ended up getting paint all over the floor, radiator, etc.) AND for all her friends' labor because supposedly 4 of her friends came over to help her paint her room over the course of 8 hours (a room smaller than our kitchen which took me 7-9 hours to paint by myself). Lol, nope. I told her there was no way and my offer was off the table, but legally she still had to be out by the 1st.
Shit escalated over the course of the next few weeks, the cops were called when she got super crazy. They told her she had a notice and she had to leave or she'd be arrested, and I wasn't obligated to give her anything for the paint and she should have taken the deal.
The day after she moved out she texted me still demanding I give her the deposit from the incoming roommate. I just laughed and told her because she waited until the very last minute to GTFO and wouldn't let anyone in to view the room so there was no incoming roommate to get a deposit from. It was very satisfying telling her to go fuck herself and to have a nice life.
TL;DR Problem Roommate was offered over $500 after we gave her a notice of termination. She got greedy and attempted to take advantage of my generosity and ended up getting nothing.
