What's the "oh heck, I messed up" of your job?

Doing updates on critical systems on a Monday morning...

TIFU this morning.

So I told my boss that I'd update the anti-spam filter to its latest firmware (compliance issue) over the weekend. I forgot to do that, so when I woke up this morning for work and for some reason that's when I finally remember what I forgot to do.

Slick me thought I could bang it out real quick (It really should have taken like minutes) but once I installed the updates, the device didn't come back on after rebooting. Fuck. The update bricked the virtual appliance and it would not boot. I had like 20 minutes before I needed to leave.

Since all email for the company is routed both in and out of it, no email was flowing what with it being dead. So I had to re-route all email directly to/from our mail servers so we could still flow email, but without the added benefit of stopping all the penis enlargement and porn emails.

After I got to work I started building a new virtual appliance to restore a backup to and for 3 hours the whole company was getting inundated with the most rude sex spam ever. I don't know why they get fuck spam so much, but since I'm the only systems guy everyone knew it was my fault.
