What's the opinion on the PM past the media?

The problem with the Labour Party selection process is that the local electorates tend to make decisions based on party loyalty - selections tend to begiven to candidates that have previously campaigned in unwinnable electorates, instead of poster-child upstarts that really can make difference.

For sure. Michael Wood (from memory) had been on the election stump since 2005 and then became the Mount Roskill MP, Marama Davidson would've made a good Labour member also. This is probably because Rogernomics was so traumatizing they made sure radicals are 'out' of the Labour Party and to foster as much consensus as is possible. The problem is the party wasn't very welcoming to 'left-wing' members they saw as "radical", this then lead to their support hemorrhaging to the Greens - who themselves moved to the left, fatally splitting the Labour Party's vote share.

As for Ghahraman, I'm not even sure what she stands for. I haven't watched her speak in parliament yet.
