A drunk driver strikes a minivan with a recently-divorced Karen, her three children, and their dog. The driver goes home to sleep it off thinking that he hit a tree. He dies three days later from liver failure brought on by cirrhosis and an accidental overdose of Tylenol, so there is no penance or absolution. The dog is found by the town's preacher the night of his funeral. The rest of the film flashes backward and forward in time, but mainly revolves around the events leading up to the crash, starting around a year or so before, from the perspective of the dog.

I'm actually in the process of writing a short novel to this effect, but I hit a wall in not having enough free time to write.
