What's the scariest situation you've been in?

My house being broken into while I was home alone. It was early in the morning, around 9am or so, when I was roused from my sleep by a sound. I wasn't certain what I heard, or if I was dreaming it, so I just laid there for a moment when I heard a distinct sound of something smashing/banging against the back door. At this point, my dog started going nuts and barking and that's when I rushed out of my room to see part of the back door window had been shattered. I grabbed my cell-phone and called my dad to find out where the hell he was and I found out he was getting his vehicle serviced. In hindsight, I should have called the cops first but you don't always think clearly when you're in a panic. Of course, he told me to hang up and call the cops and he was going to try and get home as soon as possible.

I heard another smash at the back door and I grabbed my dog and ran into my room, closed the door and barricaded it with my bed while simultaneously calling the police. When I connected with them, the first words I spoke were my address and what was happening, so they could dispatch police as quickly as possible. During this time, the intruder broke in and I could hear them walking around the house. It got to the point where I was afraid to talk as to not give away that someone was in fact, home. What seemed like forever ended up being about a couple of minutes before police arrived. I exit my room and talk to the officers and it appears whoever broke in, escaped out a window pretty close to the door they broke into, indicating to me that they saw the cops before they were able to actually get up to the house. They didn't take anything but given how small of a time they actually spent in the house before the cops arrived, and the fact that they probably noticed the dog wasn't around or barking, probably tipped them off that something wasn't right, aside from the whole home invasion thing.

This was the first but not the last time it happened either. About two years later, two guys tried to get into my house thinking nobody was home, and tried to get in. One actually opened my bedroom window and was trying to get in when I yelled and they took off running. Luckily my neighbor saw them running away and was able to identify them. They were caught quickly after that. I come to find out that one of them was already a suspect in other break-ins and even had an ankle monitor on him, and they lived just down the street. Must have been scoping the place out and didn't realize that it wasn't just my dad living here.
