What's the shittiest thing someone has ever done to you?

I feel for you. My husband's mother was in very bad shape last year and was in the hospital for nearly two months followed by an assisted living facility for three months. My FIL was shell-shocked at the idea of having to care for her on his own so we offered to move in and help him out. Now, MIL and FIL have two other sons who live nearby, but we thought it was our turn to pitch in.

So, we fixed up our beloved house halfway across the country, rented it out, moved all our possessions to storage (everything was damaged by the move because it wasn't strapped down right by the movers, so every one of our possessions has been damaged and/or destroyed.) We ended up moving in with FIL and MIL, into brother-in-law's old bedroom. Between fixing up the house to put it on the market, moving halfway across the country, and dealing with living in an area easily two or three times more expensive than where we were living, we blew through our savings.

Turns out, the brothers never helped out with anything, they just ignored any call from FIL asking for help and the claimed they never saw the call come in. MIL is a loud, demanding, needy bitch who won't do anything for herself, including cutting up her own food or wiping her own ass. She's mean, nasty, and demands instant gratification constantly. She threatens to call the police to have us removed from the house all the time, despite her not being able to care for herself. My FIL is a saint, but he enables her way too much when we try to get her to be self-sufficient in any way, shape, or form. She really needs to be in a home or have a home health nurse with her at all times, but FIL lost her long-term insurance when something happened with the company and it folded.

My husband worked remote, so that helped for a bit, but he's now being laid off in two weeks. I have no idea what we're going to do. It's doubtful my husband will be able to find as flexible a job as the one he has now. I can't work because of major health issues, and this city has ridiculously inflated housing costs. We're losing our shit being here and in afraid this situation is going to end badly.

I hope things work out on your end, it's amazing how life can take a nosedive in a flash.
