What's a sign that someone was raised well?

You sound like a good friend. I was like your friend for a while, and I hope she appreciates your understanding. My brother committed suicide, and it was a very long and traumatic ordeal for me. Several years after he died, I was very much still grieving. One of my friends told me she was struggling with depression and considering suicide. I was completely unable to be any kind of help to her. I had to tell her that I did not have the emotional strength to help her through that ordeal and offered to take her to the hospital or call her parents.

Years later, we are still very good friends and I lived to regret what I said. She recently told me that she was really struggling but didn't want to tell me about it because she knew what I went through. I realized that she now felt like she didn't have a friend she could turn to when she was in need, so I apologized and told her to please come to me if she ever needed someone to talk to in the future.

Your friend might be going through something or she might just be inconsiderate. Either way, I do hope that you do form other relationships with people who can meet your needs.
