What's something you realized about your parents as you got older?

Not the exact same issues but same general thing with my Mom. Thought she was so smart and feminist, we have hyphenated last names and blahblah. She has so many double standards and crap for men and women, and frankly shes kinda duuumb. She THINKS shes smart as hell but she's really not... which sounds so mean but ah well.

Someone gave her this adorable babyish painting with cupcakes and stuff on it for me when I was first pregnant, then wouldnt give it to me cause I had a boy "too bad this would be perfect for a little girls room!"... cause boys dont like cupcakes? I use cloth diapers, "oh you cant use that one its a girls one!" Cause flowers on it. He pees/poos in it who cares....

Shes also always been SUPER pro-gay rights, had gay friends when she waitressed before she had us. Yet the SHIT shes spouted about trans and bi people.

AND shed flip her shit if anything remotely racist was said in the house about black people. But asians are apparently fair game from the comments shes made about my cousins Korean husband and their children. After a playdate with said cousins daughter my mom asked him if he had fun with his slanty eyed cousin then made the eyes. Yknow the eyes. Yeah she got a scolding.

Yet she considers herself soooo open minded...
