I completed a full time LDS (Mormon) mission 3 years ago, but I’ve been an atheist for as long as I can remember. My father still calls me every Sunday to ask about how church was, and I tell him what he wants to hear—what what talks were given at during the meeting, how spiritual it was, etc. I do it all despite the fact that I haven’t been to church in years. My plan to keep this secret from him until his or my dying day, whichever comes first. This religion is his life and he’s sacrificed so much to raise me in the faith and stay active even throughout his years of being excommunicated. If I ever told him the truth, it would crush him.
