A colleague was retiring from teaching and she was well loved.
A small committee planned her goodbye assembly and I spent weeks interviewing as many students as possible, and lost sleep editing a tribute video for her. I even secretly got pictures from her daughter that I scanned to include in the video of her teaching throughout the years. It took me weeks to finalize a 10-15 minute tribute and I made sure it was absolutely perfect.
Leading up to the assembly she was commenting on the fact that I looked tired and worn out ...because every prep, recess, and break I was sneaking behind her back!!!!
Finally the day came and she was so genuinely surprised and touched. I managed to keep it a complete surprise, even the staff that knew about it were impressed!
