What's the story of your first "I love you"?

Ahoy, sop story ahead. Ye have been warned.

I will never forget looking over at my (now ex) girlfriend as we waited in traffic, and attempting to build up the courage to say "I love you". It was years ago and it was night-time and the glow of the lights in front made the scene into a wonderful red hue. I will never forget that moment. I have no idea what we did that night or where we were going - but I remember that moment. She looked utterly stunning as always and I had an overwhelming desire to finally tell her I loved her. I was terrified to say the words even though I felt them. Terrified. I turned and took a small breath and summoned up the courage, but precisely as I opened my mouth to get her attention she looked at me and opened her mouth and asked if there was food between her teeth. She then proceeded to clench her teeth together so I could inspect them to ensure they were clear. I did a thorough inspection of her gorgeous little teeth with the little crooked one at the bottom and gave the all clear and dropped the matter. I did eventually tell her I loved her sometime after that. Many, many times after that but I will never forget the first time I tried to tell her. She was the coolest girl I ever met and I think about her a lot when I have a quiet moment. I hope she is doing really well wherever she is.
