Something similar but violent ended up happening to my dad back in the late 1970's. He had been hanging out in various bars, had dated a handful of different women. Since he was fairly well known in his area people knew of him but did not always know him.

This random woman who ran in some of the same social circles is drunk as hell one night and starts bragging about fucking him. Which wouldn't have been a problem but a) my dad never met her before and b) this woman had a violent boyfriend.

The boyfriend actually tracks my dad's apartment down and stops by- asks to use the phone. Since he called my dad by his first name my dad thinks it is someone he'd shot pool with and merely forgotten after a long night of drinking. Being friendly my dad pulls the phone extension cord out and gives him the handset. Dude ended up pulling a gun on him, drove him around for hours on a highway threatening to shoot him- all the while my dad is pleading "Look, I have no idea who 'Missy' is- I haven't had any girlfriends by that name."

Eventually the dude drives to his home, far away from my dad's apartment, and drags him into the house by the collar of his shirt. The dude screams at his girlfriend to come downstairs. She is confused and asks "Who is this?" "THE GUY YOU FUCKED." "I don't know him."

Not sure how but eventually the dude let my dad go. Dad quitting banging barwhores after that.
