Whats up with the double standards christians?

So, basically, Christians are dishonest and atheists are more knowledgeable? Great debate post.

a verse from romans etc all completely out of context.

If it is out of context, explain to your debate opponent why they're wrong. That is a key component of debate. But keep in mind, just because you disagree doesn't mean they're being dishonest.

and suddenly I am the one taking things out of context.

Well, if you are, you are. If you think you aren't, explain why instead of making accusations.

The biggest culprits of taking things out of context are christians.

Prove this statement.

They pick and choose what they want from the bible, apply their morality to it and ignore the rest.

I'm sure some do. I've never seen it happen here. Especially not to the degree that warrants your sweeping accusation.

Why do christians have the authority to do this and atheists cannot?

Atheists can and do.

Are you guys somehow more enlightened than us?

Some people are smarter than others.

Keep in mind, many atheists were raised fundamentalist christians and know just as much if not more than most christians about the bible.

Factoid knowledge does not equate to conceptual and functional understanding. I can quote a lot of facts about space ships, but that doesn't mean I possess enough understanding to build, operate, or maintain one. In my experience, factoid knowledge is where atheists surpass Christians. I see atheists fling out quotes all day about iron chariots and homosexuals, but the large majority of them can't seem to grasp that Levitical law doesn't apply to Christians. So, now my question. Why do atheist have the authority to take things out of context and Christians cannot? Are you guys, as you seem to believe, really somehow more knowledgeable than us? Keep in mind, many Christians have been Christians their whole lives and know quite a lot about their own religion.
