What's working and what's not KFT Edition - Day 3

Highlander Shadowpriest

I've tinkered a bunch with this deck the most since launch, and wanted to share my thoughts on the card selection. There's many varieties to be run from RNG heavy card or minion generation, deathrattles with or without quest or nzoth, dragons, or a simple value based game with Lich King or Medivh. So far I've tested and abandoned cards like:

  • RNG heavy cards: Shadow Essence (Can hit many bad targets in singleton deck), Forbidden Shaping, Crystalline oracle and Ancient Shade, any other random card generation from opponents deck.
  • Combo cards: Mind Blast, Velen, Inner Fire/Divine Spirit, Barnes and co. They were often too bulky in a deck that consistently runs a heavy hand.
  • Eternal Servitude is a GOOD card paired with the right deck, but this is not it. Sometimes you may go to turn 4 without a minion played.
  • Lich King and DK Cards/Arfus. Let's be real, some of these DK cards are down right terrible for a highlander deck. You'll never play Army of the Dead unless it's to trigger a lethal hero power. Only a few of them are decent and the best are win-more for this deck. In my opinion, they are hand clutter most of the time which is BAD for this deck. The taunt is the best part about the LK, but it's almost outweighed by how counteractive it is with Shadowreaver anduin, who destroys the LK when played. There's a better late game card generator....

Cards I really like:

  • Medivh. This deck has an incredible chance to win if you curve Raza into Shadowreaver. But when you don't, boy does it fall flat. Medivh is the card that can win you the midrange game if you fail at drawing your two stars. Most weapon removal isn't saved for priest, and the weapon itself can be used for necessary ping damage when needed. Basically, it's value that isn't needed to win the game at all. Great swing turns with these spells:
    • Mind Control. This card is nuts post Raza/DK since you tack on 4-damage to the minion steal. It has also won me games where no shadow word could help, especially in the mirror.
    • Free From Amber. It's gotten a buff with Obsidian Statues and Lich King additions.
  • Curious Glimmerroot. It's a smart card generation that nets you information about your opponents deck, with a decent body. That sort of affect will get you a spot in the deck...
  • Cabal Shadow Priest. Nuts so far in what it can pull. Bloodhoof/Armorsmiths. Bolvar. Key tokens or Totems. Most Poisonous. Arfus. Pyros. Warlock Demons (stealing the taunts cripples their DK turn)
