What's the worst piece of advice you've been given and what happened?

My family told me that I was too dumb for college and I should learn a trade instead. I started a trade in datacenter construction, moved into networking and system administration. When I hit 25 I was burnt out because I didn't have foundational knowledge and was constantly behind people who studied theoretical knowledge for 4-5 years in college, now at 30 I am going to school with zero credits under my belt and it will be 5-7 years before I even have my bachelors. I could have been in a very high position by now but I don't have a degree to get the MBA for the promotions I want and after this long of not advancing companies are not as apt to hire me. Being 30 knowing it will take another 10 years to complete my education goals when there are people 10 years younger then me with a brighter future is soul crushing.
