We didn’t get punished much so I very vividly remember this one.

I had done something wrong, I don’t know what, nothing too serious. My mom told me to come here. I was suspicious of course and I asked, “Why? Are you going to hit me?” and she said very nicely that no, she wasn’t going to and she smiled and beckoned me closer.

Assured, I walked over to her and I got hit. Not even hard, just a few spanks.

But there’s something that sticks in your brain forever when someone tricks you into walking to them on the explicit assurance that they won’t hurt you and then they do. Obviously it’s not all due to that one minor thing but I do have severe trust issues and I pretty much don’t believe anyone when they tell me things and I trust people even less when they’re nice to me because something in my gut still says that niceness is just a ploy to get you close enough that they can reach you and hurt you.

Needless to say I’m not exactly a success in relationships or friendships.
